Nintendo 3DS Specs and Japanese Game List
January 8, 2011
It's Nintendo World 2011 right now, so news is going to be coming in frequently. I'd like to point out that basically everything talked about in this article is also mentioned in the video. Additionally, I'd like to give a shoutout to Vooks.net for being my new favorite Nintendo news source.
Nintendo 3DS Specs
No doubt some of the news that's been coming in is pretty exciting. The 3DS's specs were revealed including that game carts will be 2GB (although they are capable of holding 8GB). The 3DS's processor will be running at 2.4GHz, which honestly impresses me especially when compared to the DSi's 133MHz processor. Additionally, battery life will be about 5 hours at the most. Nintendo estimates that it will last 3 to 5 hours and take about 3 hours to charge. That might sound really low, but as long as you charge it after playing a while, it really shouldn't be a big deal. It's also worth mentioning that playing the 3DS for too long could make some health concerns arise, especially with young children because it may have a negative effect on developing eyesight. I think I should also point out that some experts think it's actually good for young children to play a 3DS or watch a 3D movie because it may highlight a possible vision impairment (such as a lazy eye) early on.
Japanese Launch Title List
The list seems pretty promising, and there are 8 games (10 if you count different versions of Nintendogs + Cats).
- Nintendogs + Cats
- Winning Eleven Soccer: 3D
- Super Street Fighter IV: 3D
- Samurai Warriors: Chronicle
- Puzzle Bobble 3D
- Ridge Racer 3D
- Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs 3D
- Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle
I'm noticing a trend here in the title names. We'll probably see a slight comeback of adding part of the console's name to the title like with many Nintendo 64 games.
Miscellaneous News - Pikmin 3D and 3D Luigi's Mansion?
Finally, to wrap things up a bit, is some news about the Gamecube and GBA SP. There were plans to make them 3D, but those were scrapped. However, there was actually a functional 3D Luigi's Mansion that had been developed, so I wouldn't be surprised if it makes a comeback. During the recent Iwata Asks interview, a 3D video of Pikmin was played, and Iwata said that it would be perfect for 3D. I talked to a friend and he's a bit skeptical about a handheld Pikmin, but I think it will work great on the 3DS.
