Nintendo 3DS Lite: Not Confirmed
January 5, 2012
Recently, a Japanese magazine has made a small report about a Nintendo 3DS Lite and some of it's features: extended battery life, slightly better performance, and less physical thickness. This story was nothing more than a rumor, but certainly sparked some interest. However, according to the writers of Nintendo3DSBlog:
...this “rumor” has been debunked. The magazine has stated that this information was speculation on their part. They don’t know anything in particular and were guessing as to what the 3DS Lite will be.
As exciting as an improved 3DS might be, it has yet to be confirmed and it's unlikely that we'll get one anytime soon. The Nintendo DS, for example, received an upgrade to the Lite version after about 18 months, while the 3DS has yet to finish its first full year on the market. Additionally, a new model would be discouraging to many who bought the system recently, or who are planning on buying the current model.
The firmware update that was previously coming on the 30th of this month is instead coming on December 8th.Full Article
